Referencing the Diagramming Controls

The first thing we need to do is reference the diagramming controls.

If you prefer to use the Visual Studio WPF design surface:

Open the Toolbox.
Open the Mindscape tab.
Drag the DiagramSurface icon from the Toolbox onto the designer window.
In Solution Explorer, open the Properties folder and verify that Visual Studio has created a file named licenses.licx.

If you prefer to use the XAML editor, or if you do not see a toolbox icon, or if Visual Studio does not create a licenses.licx file:

Add references to the Mindscape.WpfDiagramming.Foundation assembly.
Copy licenses.licx from the Samples directory into your project’s Properties directory.
In Solution Explorer, choose View Hidden Files, open the project’s Properties folder, right-click licenses.licx and choose Include in Project. Check that the Build Action is set to Embedded Resource.
