MVP Awards
Tagged as GeneralI’m pleased to announce that this week both Ivan Towlson and myself received a Microsoft MVP award.
Ivan has been awarded an MVP for C#, while I have received the award for ASP.Net.
So what exactly is an MVP?
“Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs) are exceptional technical community leaders from around the world who are awarded for voluntarily sharing their high quality, real world expertise in offline and online technical communities. Microsoft MVPs are a highly select group of experts that represents the technical community’s best and brightest, and they share a deep commitment to community and a willingness to help others.”
To give an example of community work that is involved, here is a short list of community related work that I can recall undertaking in the last year:
- Presented on the MVC Framework in Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Tauranga, Auckland and Palmerston North
- Presented on Building Standards Compliant Websites with ASP.Net in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch for the Microsoft technical briefings and at Remix in Australia
- Co-presented on Extending the Reach of Your Applications at the Wellington .Net User Group (as well as in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch for the Microsoft technical briefings and at Remix in Australia)
- Delivered a short presentation on developing solutions with SQL Server CE to the Wellington .Net User Group
- Presented on C# 3.0 Language Enhancements at the Christchurch Code Camp
- Co-presented on How to Make More Money at the Christchurch Code Camp
- Co-host (although not so much lately!) the Lunch with Geeks event held each week in Wellington
- Maintain my blog, commenting on various happenings in the software development world
- There are also videos around the web, mostly embarrassing, of me presenting information about web development
Ivan has also undertaken considerable community work, providing presentations to user groups around the country as well as spent untold hours helping out on the Dot Net User Group mailing list.
Mindscape has a very strong community focus and we look forward to continuing our involvement with the community in the future.
