Powershell for DBAs
Tagged as UncategorizedThanks to everyone who made it along to the SQL User Group session last night, I very much enjoyed having the chance to make it along.
As mentioned during the session, here are the slides and scripts from the session – along with some useful links which will help get you underway for your future PowerShell adventures

PowerShell 2.0 download: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968929
Installer for Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista and Server 2008. If you have Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2 you already have PowerShell 2.0 available as an installable feature.
PowerShell on TechNet: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptcenter/dd742419.aspx
This is a great starting point for good information about PowerShell both as a reference and also into the wider community of IT pro’s working with it.
SQL PowerShell Extensions: http://sqlpsx.codeplex.com/
This is the CodePlex site where you can download the very useful extensions for the SQL SMO objects to give you an army of useful cmdlets for your SQL scripting. These were the ones I used heavily in the later demos last night. You definitely want to make use of these
Idera PowerShell Plus: http://www.idera.com/Products/PowerShell/PowerShell-Plus/
Check out the Idera PowerShell IDE if you are interested in a “better text editor” for developing scripts. Remember that there is a simple built in IDE with PowerShell 2.0 as well. Idera also have a bunch of free PowerShell scripts on their site so go download them if you are interested.
