LightSpeed 3 Status Update
As many of you know, we’ve been incredibly busy working on LightSpeed 3.0 over the last few months. We thought it was important to give everyone an update on the time frames for the LightSpeed 3.0 beta.
Our original time frame was to have a beta available around mid year, but this hasn’t worked out as planned. Many of the LightSpeed 3.0 features have been implemented however core query enhancements, which we know will be a key feature of 3.0 for many customers, have taken longer than anticipated and we also want to add some more polish to other features.
Rather than rush out a beta that we know is very rough around the edges we are going to delay the beta release until it’s feature complete. We hope to provide an update on the time frame for the LightSpeed 3.0 beta in the near future.
We do push some of the LightSpeed 3.0 enhancements into the nightly builds for 2.x. These primarily focus on the designer enhancements that Ivan has been blogging about recently.

Hi JD, just curious if you guys had come to a conclusion on framework version(s) supported and licensing approach on the 3.0 version.
Thanks!
Eric
I’ll leave the licensing question to JD, but I can confirm our plans for framework version support.
We will be targeting .NET 3.5 SP1. The feedback we’ve had is that people are generally using the latest version and that upgrading is not seen as a major consideration. (That said, we aren’t jumping straight to .NET 4 because (a) that gives us a dependency on when .NET 4 comes out, and (b) .NET 4 will require VS2010 and that is likely to prove more of an upgrade barrier than using new framework versions within VS2008.)
There will also be a .NET 2.0-compatible version of the core LightSpeed DLL, for environments where upgrading the framework is not feasible for whatever reason.
Hi Eric,
We’re still planning to alter the licensing to be per-developer. All existing customers who purchased this year will be migrated to that plan at no additional expense to them.
The plan is that we’ll be providing the product with 12 months of updates available and then a small price to extend the updates subscription if desired when that period expires.
We’re still working out the finer details currently but that’s the plan. Appreciate your feedback on this.
