I'm trying to work whether SASS in Microsoft-land, i.e. an ASP.NET MVC 5 project with Visual Studio 2013 is an endeavor worth pursuing yet. There was NSass but I gave up with that after getting some arcane error and seeing that there was no documentation. Now I've installed Web Workbench which two bloggers had mentioned (including Scott Hanselmann) but it installs, and then doesn't offer me any UI guidance as to how I might get my .scss files (from Zurb Foundation) turned into .css. What do I do now? I can't find any documentation on this site either. The Getting Started page is just more feature touting. I guess documentation is for wimps right? Seriously, I love paying for software, it makes me feel that some of that money is going to go into the critical job of making a product easy to use, taking little of my time and therefore, much less of my money. Can someone point me in the right direction? Luke |

Hi Luke, What you will want to do is add a new Scss (Sass) file, if you right click in your solution explorer and expand the Add submenu you will see "New Scss File", "New Less File" and "New Coffee File" options, so you can pick the Scss file option. Alternatively these items are available under the Web templates in the larger Add New Item dialog. Once you are editing a .scss file once you save the file it will be compiled and you will have a .css file added as a child node underneath the .scss file item. It will be created in the same underlying folder as the .scss file. If you are going to use Compass with Foundation then you will want to first convert the project to a Compass project which you can do via the "Setup Compass Project" item on the right click context menu when clicking on a project node in the solution explorer. Any .scss file which lives inside the Compass directory structure (by default this is the sass folder which gets created by this process) will be compiled with the Compass compiler. Let us know if you have any more questions on this :)

Thanks very much Jeremy. I'll copy and paste the contents of my existing .scss files the way you describe. Luke |

For existing files just add these in via Visual Studios "Add Existing Item" dialog :)

I get the impression there's a bug or problem on my machine. Insert image didn't work either, okay see this link: There's a plus icon next to the Site1.scss I just added, but nothing under it. The other .scss files were removed from the project and added as existing items again. These don't work either. I need to crack on so I'm going to look elsewhere. It seems there's still no good story around SASS and Visual Studio. I'll use normal CSS. |
