I just updated my Web Workbench through the Extension Manager in Visual Studio 2010 and now my .scss files are no longer triggering the generation of .css and .min.css files. To test this, I've deleted the two files under my scss file, made a trivial change in the .scss file and saved. No new files are being generated. When I right-click on the .scss file in my solution I have the option to "Run Custom Tool" but when I select that I get an error message: "Cannot find custom tool ScssGenerator on this system." I've tried disabling and re-enabling the Workbench extension without any luck. I've tried deleting and re-installing the extension as well without any effect. The files are showing as nested which seems to indicate some part of the extension is working - just not the file generation. Help. |

Further details: When I go to my Tools > Options > Web Workbench there is only one item in the Options Show Intellisense for CSS Extensions. There are no other options as mentioned in your Version 3 release notes. |

We're not sure what could cause this. Do make sure that compilation is turned on for these files in Mindscape > Web Workbench Settings (it is turned on by default, but just to be sure). You might also want to make sure that all files (.scss, .css and .min.css) are checked out if you are using TFS source control -- this shouldn't be an issue as we check them out when required, but again just in case. Could you try:
Thanks! There aren't meant to be any new entries in Tools > Options. The compilation options are in Mindscape > Web Workbench Settings. |

Here is the sequence of events from problem to resolutions. Hope this helps you guys, but the truth is I have no idea why it's working now, but it is.
There ya go. Not sure how valuable that break-down is for you but that's the 3 hours I lost yesterday trying to figure this out. Not sure if it was sun spots or what, but it's working now which is a big relief for me - I've come to rely on your tool quite a lot. I just saw something similar in VS 2011 Beta. I installed from Extension Manager, restarted, and said "Oh, good, they didn't put that silly Mindscape menu on Visual Studio 11." But then I got the same "cannot find custom tool" error that brought me to this post. I tinkered with Options and then the Mindscape menu appeared. But same build errors. I uninstalled and reinstalled, same errors. I uninstalled and reinstalled again, but this time I had a solution open when I did it. The Mindscape menu appeared with no tweaking required and now the generator works. |

Thanks for the extra info, Chad. We'll see if we can figure out what's going on. |

I'm having issues with Chirpy. While the issue discussed here is different, I too only see a single option under Tools - Options - WebWorkBench (the one for Show Intellisense for CSS). Further info, the following extensions are also installed: AnkhSVN DevExpress Tools (Suite) Git Source Control Provider NuGet |

Sorry, there's a mistake in that message -- we decided not to provide a setting to suppress the Chirpy warning, because our experience was that Chirpy highlighting didn't work in the presence of Web Workbench, and we assumed that if you installed Web Workbench then you wanted the Web Workbench highlighting. We will update the message in the next build; apologies for leaving the incorrect text in there. (Or we will provide the setting if that's what users want!) You don't say what issues you are having with Chirpy, so we can't really offer any further advice except to upgrade to a build of Chirpy with the 'Less syntax highlighting' option. The official Chirpy site is at http://chirpy.codeplex.com/ (you will need a build dated Feb 2012 or above) and a couple of our customers have posted unofficial builds and linked them from http://www.mindscapehq.com/forums/thread/271601 (note the option name may be slightly different in these builds). If you still have issues, could you let us know more about what problems you're seeing? Thanks! |
