This may be a bit too hypothetical, but I don't want to find out later that I shouldn't have done this :). My layout is somewhat based on http://www.mindscapehq.com/blog/index.php/2008/04/28/heterogeneous-hierarchies-in-the-wpf-elements-multicolumntreeview/ but my hierarchy is really un-homogeneous, mostly just about sub-groups of information. It's not until the lowest level that I actually want to use the columns. Are there any negative (or positive) repercussions to leaving out the GridViewRowPresenter in the higher levels, and similarly leaving out the ItemsPresenter at the bottom level? Thanks! |

It should be safe to leave out the ItemsPresenter at the bottom level. The possible negative repercussion is that you will need to remember to put it back if you ever decide to add a new, even lower, level. I am not sure if there are any benefits -- I guess there might be a marginal performance improvement but this will only make a difference if you are displaying a huge number of items (and will probably be dwarfed by the time to display those items anyway). I think it is also safe to leave out the GridViewRowPresenter at levels where you don't need columns displayed. We don't appear to have any dependency on that part being present. However we haven't tested this. |
