After the last update from Visual Studio Extensions Manager, Web Workbench fails to load. The following dialog is displayed: The 'Mindscape.VisualSass.Integration.VisualSassPackage, Mindscape.WebWorkbench.Integration.10, Version=3.2.528.21592, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' package did not load correctly. The problem may have been caused by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension. You can get more information by examining the file 'C:\Users\altair\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\ActivityLog.xml'. And, indeed, the Web Workbench does not work, like it has not been even installed. The ActivityLog.xml file says that SetSite failed for the package (full file attached): SetSite failed for package [Mindscape.VisualSass.Integration.VisualSassPackage, Mindscape.WebWorkbench.Integration.10, Version=3.2.528.21592, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null] Disabling/enabling the extension solves the problem for a while, but it repeats. I'm running Windows 8 Pro (RTM) and Visual Studio 2012 (RTM). |

Do you have VS2010 or SQL 2012 installed at all or just VS2012? What type of project are you loading at the time when you get that error? Just to confirm, you had a previous version of WW installed and this has only started occurring since the update. You mentioned disable/enable resolves the issue temporarily - can you elaborate on that? When do you start noticing the problem again?
I do not have VS 2010, but I have SQL 2012, so VS2010 shell is installed, yes.
Web Application Project.
Yes. I'm using WW for quite a time now, this started to happen when I installed new version offered by the auto update feature.
It's one-time shot, though. When I close VS and open it again, the problem reappears. I tried uninstall/reinstall, but it didn't changed anything. I would like to try previous version, to confirm that the problem lies really in the newest one, but I can't find it for download anywhere. |

Thats pretty strange! Enable should just be doing exactly the same thing as when it gets started on load. What other extensions do you have installed? Are you running Chirpy or Web Essentials at all?
I'm running Web Essentials. I don't even knew what Chirpy is, but it seems to be installed in the addins folder, so most likely it is part of Web Essentials or something. For the installed extensions, see attached file. Maybe, if you could somehow give me older version, I could try if the problem is really related to this specific version. |
Can you check if this still occurs with Web Essentials disabled or uninstalled please?
I disabled Web Essentials and it behaves exactly the same way as described before, no change. |
Ok thanks, I will fetch an earlier version and come back to you with a download link.
I have put up the earlier build for you here: http://assets.mindscape.co.nz/Downloads/Mindscape.WebWorkbench.Integration-20120817.10.vsix Let me know how you get on.

So, installing the previous version didn't helped. Uninstalling Web Essentials and deleting Chirpy didn't helped. |
Try disabling/uninstalling all the other extensions although I would be a bit surprised if that ended up sorting it out. Its a pity its not easier to determine why it loads on disable/enable but not initially - that would seem to be the underlying issue here.

So, I disabled all extensions, except the following, which could not be disabled:

Ok thanks, not too surprising. I will have a look at adding in some logging to see if I can get a bit more detail out about what is happening and put up a private build for you to try out. I will post an update once this is ready for you.

I just want to let you know, that I had to reinstall my system (for unrelated reason) and after reinstall, the software is working just fine. So it's possible that the problem was somewhere in my installation or so. |
