Steps:
I open, edit and save the settings file directly without the crash occurring. I have attached the error pop-up (though not much help). I also captured the references crash dump file. The dump file fails the upload, I am guessing due to it's size of over 50MB. |

Unfortunately this doesnt give much detail about what might have happened here. I presume you are working with a Website project as per your earlier posts? Is this on VS2010 or VS2012 and what version of Windows? Did you ever have a beta/RC version of VS2012 installed on this machine previously?

Yeah, I realize the message itself is not much help. I do have the dump file referenced though if that helps. It was just too big to attach (50MB). This IS on a website project, using VS2010 on Windows 7. I have never installed VS2012. Hope that helps. |

Can you let me know which version of WW are you running? (I am assuming the latest gallery update, but always pays to check) :)

Also is your Website project based on the local file system or is it running on a network path or web folder?

I am running version 3.2.528.21592, installed on 10/18/2012 via Extension Manager update. As for our web site projects, we all work locally. |

Do you have a WebWorkbench.mswwsettings file already in your web site project? And if yes - is the file read-only (perhaps managed under source control either through VS or externally)
|

Yes, we do have a setting file in our web site project. It will be read-only by default. If you open it it directly and "touch the file", it will be automatically checked out and editable. No issue in this scenario. If you use the Mindscape menu, and click to view the settings, the file appears to still be read-only (in the solution explorer). The settings though appear to be "touched" automatically (indicated by a * on the window tab). Saving the setting will check the file out, but then the crash happens. We use TFS. Note: I did test to see if your suspicion was possibly the cause by manually checking out the settings file before attempting to navigate to the settings and save, but the result was the same. |

If you delete the existing settings file and let it create a new one with the default settings and then make a single simple change (e.g. check a tick box off) and save it do you stilll get a crash? The file itself should be getting completely refreshed each time but I am wondering if there is something about the existing file which is generating the crash or a setting that was being applied within the existing file that is causing a problem when being written back out.

Is it possible for you to send through your settings file? We have had another person with a similar issue resolve this by deleting the settings file so assuming that works for you it would appear it is a case of some bad data in the settings file. Assuming that is the case I would be keen to get a copy of the settings file to try and reproduce the issue here and determine what the root cause is here.
