The application I am working on allows users to customize their own color theme. What we are hoping to do is allow the user to pick their colors, then on the server add the colors to variable declarations in a scss file and compile it dynamically. So basically, we would like to compile the files from an ASP.net server process. Is this possible? |

Yes you can do this using the command line compiler - http://www.mindscapehq.com/blog/index.php/2012/04/01/web-workbench-and-your-automated-build-process/ You will need to shell out to the tools to perform the generation so you might want to structure your implementation so it is sitting behind a queue to avoid any resource starvation issues.

Jeremy, thanks for the response. Why exactly are you proposing to use a queue? Thanks, KB |

I would look at a queue to allow you to manage the resources consumed by this process (e.g. have a maximum number of them running at one time). My concern would be is if this is something that could be triggered by a user action then you would leave yourself open to a DOS type attack by repeatedly triggering the action to generate enough load on the server to impact the system generally. If this doesnt really apply to your situation then please feel free to ignore the suggestion of course :)
