Using the bundled ruby installation doesn't generate .css files out of .scss files. Pointing to to ruby folder (C:\Ruby200-x64\bin or C:\Ruby200-x64\bin\ruby.exe or C:\Ruby200-x64\bin\rubyw.exe) generates .css file with the following message in it:
Has no effect on .sass files. Doesn't generate .css at all. |

Hi, It looks like you are using Compass for the compilation, if you are using a custom Ruby installation you need to ensure you have the Sass and Compass gems installed. The compiler is looking for compass.bat in your bin directory to execute. C:\Ruby200-x64\bin is the correct path to use assuming an installation at C:\Ruby200-x64 In terms of things not working with the bundled installed, what error are you seeing when you say no .css is generated?

The issue it seems was with x64 build of Ruby. Once I downloaded 32 bit build, things were fine again. Using the bundled option (that is not having Ruby installed at all) doesn't generate any .css files at all. No error is logged anywhere. (I'm not sure if there's a log file generated somewhere under %appdata%... or some other buried location) If the file is named as .sass, then nothing happens even with Ruby installed. Here's a summary of affairs: Ruby p2.0 Build x32:
Ruby p2.0 build x64:
Bundled option (ruby not installed on system):

Thanks for the additional information. Just to clarify, we dont handle .sass files or that syntax, We only process and compile .scss files as part of the extension. To confirm, with the bundled installation you are seeing the same error as you indicated in your first post as well and this is the same as when you had the custom x64 bit Ruby install configured? Do you have any unicode characters or spaces etc as part of your username? I would be keen to try and diagnose why the bundled compiler is not working for you, but I would suggest you stick with the workaround of the custom Ruby install in the meantime :)

With the bundled compiler, there is no error, no CSS, no output of any kind. And my username doesn't have any space or Unicode characters. |

Very odd - sounds a bit like the bundled install isn't being called correctly. Do you have a Ruby193 folder in your %TEMP%\Mindscape\WebWorkbench folder? If so can you describe the contents? There should be a small Ruby installation residing there, so if you open up a command prompt from the bin folder and run sass.bat --version do you get the version number or an error? Sounds like you may need to stick with using the custom Ruby installation in the meantime, which may be preferable if you are looking to manage the gems yourself.
