I was trying to get the Miscape designer to work with Oracle and it works great if you create a C# project. I am able to drag and drop the tables from the database into the designer and generate the code. However, if I try the same thing for a VB.NET project, it doesn't seem to do anything. I have the same issue if I use the LINQ to SQL classes for VB.NET. I don't know if these 2 issues are related. Any idea why might be wrong? |

If LINQ to SQL is also not generating VB.NET code, then it is likely that this is not a LightSpeed issue: it probably means your Visual Studio installation has been corrupted or broken in some way. VS uses the registry to store information about custom tools (the DLLs that generate code-behind files), and this info is stored on a per-language basis. Also, custom tools typically get hooked up via templates and these are also on a per-language basis. So I would guess the VB bits of one of these hookups has got damaged or deleted. For the LightSpeed designer, one thing to check is if you select the .lsmodel file in Solution Explorer and look in the Properties window, does the Custom Tool entry show LightSpeedModelGenerator? If so, it is probably the registry which is broken, and I can't suggest anything easier than a repair or reinstall of VS. If not, it may just be the template wiring. Try typing LightSpeedModelGenerator into the Custom Tool box and see if that causes a model to be generated. If that still doesn't help, then again repairing or reinstalling VS is probably required. |

The generated files were hidden for some reason by default. I had to click on 'Show all files' option to get them to show. This doesn't happen for a C# project.

Ah, right. Yes, Visual Studio has different rules for showing generated files depending on whether it is a VB or C# project, I think because of Microsoft's assumptions about the target users for the two languages. Glad to hear all is well now! |
