I'm shopping for a great .NET provider and see from SQLite site there are several. I know that Lightspeed will say theirs is the best. But does anyone know of any indepent reviews ?
Here are some that are listed.
System.Data.SQLite
Devart dotConnect for SQLite
myGeneration
LightSpeed

Lightspeed is an ORM that allows you to map objects to multiple databases, one of them being SqLite. Lightspeed uses System.Data.SqLite to access a SqLite database. Lightspeed saves you a lot of time by creating all of the data access objects and allows you to use Linq queries to obtain strongly typed objects. In testing your code, you will see a lot less errors when your objects are typed over loosely typed. I use Lightspeed on three different projects. The amount of time I save on using Lightspeed over creating all of the insert, update and select code is unmeasurable. Hope this helps. Joe Feser Lightspeed customer |

I'm not aware of any side-by-side comparisons to DevArt etc., and as Joe (who *is* independent, by the way) has pointed out, LightSpeed is an ORM rather than a data provider, so that would be an apples-to-oranges comparison anyway. In terms of standalone reviews, however, Omar Besiso posted a detailed commentary at http://omarbesiso.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!70A5B53D721071B7!473.entry, and David Hayden has written a number of articles about it -- search via http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=site%3Adavidhayden.com+lightspeed&btnG=Search&meta= (this one is the overview, though it is about a year old and we have since addressed many of the issues and suggestions). Again, neither of these guys is associated with Mindscape. |

Hi Nevering, Most reviews that exist are from folks who started reviewing, liked it, and ended up being customers. Finding a review from somebody who has not ended up a customer is hard. Here are a couple of reviews online (also from customers). http://omarbesiso.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!70A5B53D721071B7!473.entry Personally I count customer reviews as independent (such as Joe's comments above) as it was their choice and they often evaluated other ORMs before picking LightSpeed. I hope that helps, John-Daniel Trask |
