Having a few issues upgrading from 2.2 to 3.0 First off, I installed 3.0 without uninstalling 2.2 (nightly build), which I think was the cause. When I then tried to create a model I received an error about something missing (apologies, didn't note done the error as wasn't quite with it). I then remembered having problems previously when going from 2.2 to a nightly build, so uninstalled 2.2 and 3.0 completely and attempted to re-install 3.0 I am now getting a message box popping up with "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The Error code is 2932" I am presuming that something somewhere needs to be cleaned out, but not sure what or where. Help ! |

Forgot to mention that there are no Mindscape assemblies hanging around in C:\Windows\assembly\ as far as I can see |

Yes, we have had reports of issues with installing 3.0 over 2.2 without uninstalling first. We're not sure what's causing it, but that is indeed likely to be the source of the problem. On the other hand, a package error during reinstallation is a new one on us, so please be patient if this takes a little while to figure out. Could you please try the following: * Go into Control Panel and look for Mindscape LightSpeed entries. There may be more than one. Uninstall all of them. * Go into the GAC and remove any Mindscape.* DLLs. * Go into Program Files / Mindscape and ensure that there are no LightSpeed directories left there. (If there are, copy anything you want to save, then delete them.) * Open a Visual Studio command prompt and run devenv /resetskippkgs. * Try to install LightSpeed 3. If it succeeds, chug a beer: you're done. * If LightSpeed 3 installation still gives you the error, try to install LightSpeed 2.2 (ideally the last nightly build you had). * If that succeeds, you can either decide to stick with 2.2 for now (in which case chug a beer), or you can try the 3.0 upgrade again. If you want to try the upgrade again, uninstall 2.2 and then run the 3.0 installer. (The reason for trying the install-uninstall cycle is to see if it will clean out whatever was borking the 3.0 install.) * If the 2.2 install fails, or the uninstall-2.2-then-reinstall-3.0 fails, please note the error message and check the Application and System event logs for any related events. If you can indicate when during the install the error appeared, that might also be helpful (by "when" I mean early in the install, after all the files were copied but before it did the "hang for 2 minutes while Visual Studio does its thing" bit, or after the "hang for 2 minutes while VS does its thing") In this case you will probably want to chug a beer anyway. |
Chugged some sparkling water
Well, there goes your reputation as the hard man of object-relational mapping. Still not sure what was going on there, but glad to hear it's sorted, and thanks for the detailed info about the symptoms.
