Hi guys, Just wondering, how production ready is LightSpeed for VS2010? Cheers Joseph |

Right now, the VS2010 designer is not under automated build, so it's tied to a particular nightly build of LightSpeed proper. We have been working this week on integrating VS2010 into our automated build process, but for our own sanity's sake we're starting with one of our smaller products. My hope is that we'll have the VS2010 designer fully productionised sometime next week, but I'm not making any promises at this stage (we still haven't been notified of a ship date for the Visual Studio integration tools that we're using, though in practice this doesn't seem to be an issue). Does that answer your question, or are there aspects of the runtime or other tooling that you want to know about? |

Thanks Ivan, that does help. Have you guys thought about developing a standalone designer and code generator? (from some comments you guys made in the past, it sounds like Visual Studio's limitation is making it rather difficult to enhance the designer) |

Thought about it and initially prototyped it that way, but the benefits of Visual Studio integration are very substantial. Yes, VS makes some enhancements difficult, but it makes others a lot easier; and there are some features we simply could not do at all (or would have to reimplement from scratch at considerable cost, or would be far less seamless) without VS integration. We're not ruling it out for the future, but it's not something we feel would be a good use of our time right now. |
