I am having trouble installing LightSpeed on Windows Vista Home Premium. The VS 2008 Item Templates are not being installed. There are no errors during installation. I have read through all of the installation posts on this forum and have tried the following: 1. Running the msi installation from the console elevated to administrator. 2. Activating the administrator account using "net user administrator /active:yes", logging in as administrator and then trying to install LightSpeed. 3. I have tried the following msi builds:
Here is the path to were I am assuming it should put the template file (looks like it should be LightspeedModel.zip): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\Data\1033 I have searched my entire hard drive for LightspeedModel.zip and nothing is found. Is there a way I can get the LightspeedModel.zip file and install the templates manually? I am assuming that my problems are related to using Windows Vista Home Premium. Here is the build of my VS 2008 Express: 9.0.30729.1 SP. It is the English version of VS 2008 Express. Let me know if you need any other information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks! Still trying to get this to work... I noticed that the LightSpeedModelDesigner_VS2010_20100324.msi has the LightSpeedModel.zip file in it. However this installation will not work with VS 2008. I copied the LightSpeedModel.zip into VS 2008 and ran the devenv /installvstemplates command to get it to show up. It is showing up correctly, but now it appears that the Lightspeed designer is missing. I am not sure why the LightSpeedModelDesigner_VS2010_20100324.msi appears to have everything needed to install the designer in VS2010, but I have extracted the files manually from LightSpeed30Professional.msi, LightSpeed30Professional-20100403.msi, and LightSpeed30Professional-20100409.msi and I do not see the designer or VS templates for VS 2008. Am I missing something here? Is there a separate VS 2008 designer install that I need? Thanks! Eric |

Hi Eric, No, there isn't another installer for the designer. All that is needed is inLightSpeed30Professional.msi file. Can you please try uninstalling all versions of LightSpeed and then just running the latest nightly build? The VS2010 installer is *only* for the design surface to be integrated into Visual Studio 2010. Also please ensure you use the latest nightly build as we modified the installer to ensure that it supported all languages of Visual Studio (German, French, etc) which alters slightly how we integrate the templates for Visual Studio. To access the design surface, make sure you add a new LightSpeedModel to your project. Can you see that template (under "Data" when you add a new item) and if so, once that is added, does the designer open when you double click that file? I'm just trying to understand where things appear to be breaking down for you. Kind regards, John-Daniel |

Thanks for your help. I uninstalled all versions of LightSpeed and reinstalled the latest nightly build (LightSpeed30Professional-20100410.msi). The installer ran without errors (I checked the event viewer). When I open Visual Web Developer Express 2008 the template does not show up. It is like the installer does not have access to the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0" folder, but I checked the folder security and ran the installer from the elevated administrator console. My guess would be that it has something to do with the fact that I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 or that I am running Visual Web Developer Express 2008 instead of the full Visual Studio 20008. Could this be the problem? Thanks! Eric |

Just tried installing the latest build of Lightspeed on my Windows XP Pro machine and it works great, so there must be something wrong with my Windows Vista machine. The difference I noticed is that on the Windows XP Pro machine the designer/templates showed up as an option in the installer, but on the Windows Vista one only the Core shows up. I am going to reinstall VS 2008 and see if that fixes it. Thanks for your help! Eric |

Ah! Visual Studio Express does not support add-ins - that's why it won't show up :-( Sorry about that Eric, I didn't realise that with your initial post. Unfortunately, this is a Microsoft limitation, not a Mindscape one so there is nothing we can do to fix that situation. We do have some command line tools for entity generation if needed (you can read about them in the help documentation) however the designer is obviously much much nicer to use. If you have a non-express edition floating around, I'd recommend using that with LightSpeed. I hope that helps clarify the situation Eric, apologies for taking a while to realise that point.
