Hello - I am finally getting back to this after taking a months-long break due to other pressing projects. I am re-learning everything I learned the first time around. My scenario is this. I am building a set of WCF services that use the LIghtSpeed product to interface to a SQL Server database. This set of services will deliver data to and from various clients, using HTTP, FTP and TCP. In order to serialize and deserialize the data, I need to convert the LightSpeed model entities to Data Trandfer Objects when reading from the database, and then convert those DTOs back to LightSpeed model entities to update the database. From the information contained in your DTO sample code I figured out how to do the first part, converting model entities to DTOs, and it is really slick code. However, I have not found a decent example of how to go the other way. Where can I find good sample code that demonstrates how to convert incoming DTOs to model entities? I will need to work with everything from single record updates to replacing the entire table of records. I have done this before, using strongly-typed datasets, but I don't want to go back down that road. Any help out there? Thanks, Dave Newman |

Hmm, seems that the sample doesn't show the upload direction. We'll see if we can get that updated for you. In the meantime see Help Topics > Modelling Tools > WCF Support in the help file for an example of updating an entity from a DTO in a service method. An alternative approach, which may work better for batch updates, is described in http://www.mindscapehq.com/forums/Thread.aspx?PostID=9049. Is that enough to get you started? |

I think I can get started with that. I will probably have more questions, though... Thanks!
