Hi I’ve run the LightSpeed Express installer from MindScape site and installed all components of it into a Win7 64bit PC. I now have the installed folders for LightSpeed 3.11 with samples etc. When I open VS 2010, start a new solution and add a new item should I not see LightSpeed Model? If I open the sample WinForms solution the model does not appear to be recognised as a LightSpeed model and opens in the view as a xml file. I’ve looked through dozens of your support files but have not located anything that helps. What am I doing wrong? A speedy reply would be nice as I’m falling far behind my deadline.

First off check http://www.mindscapehq.com/forums/Thread.aspx?ThreadID=2438 which addresses some common cases (in particular try devenv /resetskippkgs and devenv /setup). You should see LightSpeed Model in the Data section when adding a new item to a project (it also appears in the main section but in VS2010 it can be hard to find anything in the main section!). It actually sounds like the VS2010 integration may not have been installed. Try uninstalling and reinstalling, and check that VS2010 model designer is selected. |

Hi Nothing in that thread helped. I can’t see LightSpeed Model in the Data section. Uninstall\Reinstall hasn’t helped. It didn’t appear to register any VS components during install. I can assure you I selected all options to be installed onto local HD including the VS 2008 and VS 2010 designer options. What can I try now?

Could you take a look in the registry under HKLM > Software > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > VisualStudio > 10.0 > Packages and see if you see the following key: {af67eb34-a276-4aad-9e7a-9a672c30f1f1} Also check under C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\Data and see if there is a file named LightSpeedModel.zip. If there is, go into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplatesCache\CSharp\Data (note Cache in folder name), and see if there is a folder named LightSpeedModel.zip. This will help us determine if there has been some issue with the installation. |

Also take a look at this thread: http://www.mindscapehq.com/forums/Thread.aspx?PostID=12536 |

The registry key isn't there. Neither is the LightSpeedModel.zip file. |

Are you seeing the spurious directories off the root, mentioned in the other thread I linked? |
|
|
No they don't exist in my root folder. |

This is bizarre. It seems like nothing has been installed at all. Under the LightSpeed installation directory, do you have a Tools > Designer folder? Does it contain a file named Mindscape.LightSpeed.Generator.Integration.Dsl.10.dll? What is the value of the following registry value: Key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0, Value: InstallDir Could you try uninstalling and re-running the installer as administrator? Are you a local admin on the machine? Could you try temporarily turning off UAC (obviously we wouldn't normally ask you to do this, but I'm struggling to think of what might be causing things to just not get installed)? |

I had just tried turning UAC off and reinstalled. It's looking good now. |

Thanks for the info, Brendon. We'll add it to the troubleshooting thread. |
