I'm receiving this error whenever I try to use the designer:
Failed to generate code for model. Exception message: Unable to find resource 'Base.vm'
This then leads to the code generation failing (with an NVelocity error). This is based on the June 17th nightly.
Is there a workaround to get this working? Machines which had a previous version of Lightspeed and were upgraded to this nightly work fine, but this machine, which is a fresh install, is failing.
Thank you, Reed

I haven't been able to reproduce this, I'm afraid. The first thing to check is that you don't have the remains of a previous install lying around (I know this is a fresh install, but humour me). Go into Control Panel and check if there is more than one "Mindscape LightSpeed" entry in Add/Remove Programs. If so uninstall all of them, then reinstall the LS4 beta. The next thing is to verify that the templates have indeed been installed. They should be under installdir > Tools > Designer > Templates > C#. Go into that directory and verify that Base.vm is there. If you are using per-project custom templates, check that path instead. Is it possible a relative path is messed up? If still no joy, I suggest using a tool such as Filemon or Process Monitor to find out where Visual Studio is searching for the files (you should be able to filter on the process name 'devenv.exe' and the file name 'Base.vm' to avoid having to wade through too much output). If this doesn't match the expected directory, then we need to determine why it is looking in the wrong place -- let us know where it is looking, and as a workaround try copying the .vm files from the install location to that 'wrong' place. (It is also possible for activation errors to occur if Visual Studio is not allowed through the firewall to activate, but I don't believe these would give you the 'Base.vm' error.) |

Hi Ivan, in the end it was a problem with the templates path. But one think I have seen when trying to change the path, is that the setting doesn't seem to appear anymore in the project Properties in LS 4 as it did in LS 3. Regards! Vicente |

Yes, we worked around this problem - but the issue happened because I didn't see teh custom template in the project, as it's not showing up appropriately (using the latest June 27th nightly). Thanks, Reed |

We have a known issue where the custom template path doesn't show unless you have opened a .lsmodel file in this Visual Studio session. If you're not seeing the template path even after you have opened a .lsmodel file then let us know and we'll try to reproduce -- thanks! |

I had the .lsmodel open, opened the Project Settings, and still no template path...

Hello Ivan, After opening the LS Model I could see the template path, you are right :) Regards! |
